ATLANTA, Ga. -- Georgians who want to learn how to better protect their homes and businesses from the impacts of disasters can get free advice at special informational displays opening Saturday, Oct. 10, at three area home improvement stores.
Mitigation specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be available for one-on-one assistance - both in English and Spanish - at informational displays located at stores in Cherokee, Douglas and Gwinnett counties daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those stores are:

A staffed informational display at the Lowe's of Austell remains open until
noon, Oct. 16, at: 1717 East-West Connector in Austell.

The mitigation specialists can provide individualized help on a variety of options for reducing or preventing damage such as: protecting electrical systems, furnaces, and other appliances; reinforcing structures against high winds and flooding; safeguarding valuables; and securing other important personal property. Information on flood insurance also is available.
The information, which includes reference booklets, is free and provided both in English and Spanish. No registration is required and there is no limit on the number of times someone can visit with a specialist.
